Wine industry: Celebrity edition

Celebrities investing in the wine industry isn’t exactly a new or unfamiliar phenomenon, but it never really commands the headlines in the same way that having an affair with the maid or naming a baby after a fruit does. Hence, today’s blog will be dedicated to the vino-centric ventures of some of the most noteworthy people of our time.

Donald Trump: Trump Winery

Newly elected United States president and acclaimed businessman Donald Trump—who is about as famous as they come at this juncture in time—delved into the wine world after purchasing a 1,300-acre estate for a total of USD$8.5 million (AUD$12.4 million) in 2011. The multi-award winning winery—which is the largest in the state of Virginia—is now run by Trump’s son, Eric, under the name Eric Trump Wine Manufacturing LLC.

Andrea Pirlo: Pratum Coller
When most football fans hear or read the name Andrea Pirlo, the appellation most likely to spring to mind is maestro, or playmaker. Well, as it turns out, the Italian football legend isn’t just making plays on the pitch; since 2007, the acclaimed former midfielder has been developing the innovative Brescia-based wine label Pratum Coller, which operates in a completely organic and eco-sustainable manner in a bid to preserve and protect nature.

Snoop Dogg: Snoop Cali Red

Despite first breaking onto the scene as a musical artist, multi-award winning rapper Snoop Dogg—in collaboration with Australian wine brand 19 Crimes—decided to ‘pop’ it like its hot into the wine business with the release of his first bottle in 2020; ‘Snoop Cali Red.’ Similarly to his music career, the wine was a major hit, selling hundreds of thousands of units across the globe.

Kylie Minogue: Kylie Minogue Wines

In 2020, Australian megastar Kylie Minogue officially decided to dip her toe into the wine industry—as if being a multi-platinum artist, actor and philanthropist wasn’t already enough. Her label, Kylie Minogue Wines, has since been a huge success, with her ‘Prosecco Rosè’ alone generating a staggering AUD$15 million in 2021. It was, subsequently, named the United Kingdom’s top selling branded prosecco rosè.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Chateau Miraval Winery

What was once the location of their wedding, Chateau Miraval still remains the thing that bonds Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie—but perhaps that’s no longer such a good thing. Although the now-estranged couple—who were once worshipped as Hollywood’s sweethearts—have been legally single since 2019, the pair have remained embroiled in a plethora of court disputes; one of which revolves around the largely successful French-based winery.
