The Wog With The Grog’s fashion tips

Whether you are attending a meeting, travelling around the globe or going on a hot date, it’s always important to dress to impress… because first impressions count, right?

It’s great to be aware of trends, but why not experiment a little!
You want to stand out from the crowd, and in order to look good you HAVE to feel good.

Here are some tips I have gathered across my years of dressing for events, international trade shows, and business meetings… it’s not one size fits all, but it has certainly worked for me.

  1. Make sure your clothes fit:

I know sometimes the oversized look is a go-to, and when done at fashion shows may look cool on the runway, but IRL your clothes really do need to fit your particular body type. It just gives you a more sophisticated and put together look.

Take for example a plain shirt. A shirt that fits you well can show your ‘gains’… if that’s what you want to do.

A fitted look is especially essential to look pulled together for work meetings. Your tailor will be your best friend!

  1. It’s not just your clothes:

It’s not just clothes that make you look good. Grooming is KEY! Keep your nails cut, your skin looked after and moisturised, and having a fresh cut just ties it all in. (Those who know me know I see my barber on the regular!)

You can wear the fanciest clothes, and have the most expensive shoes… but if you don’t look and smell fresh… it doesn’t matter how much you’ve spent.

  1. Train hard:

This correlates to the point above… t’s not just about the clothes. In fact, it’s what’s under the clothes that also counts.

We’re not talking abs of steel… hey, dad bods are on trend (thankfully!).

But some general fitness always means taking a stride with more confidence!

  1. Accessorise to a minimal:

Choose a cool tie, add some man jewellery… I always say an outfit isn’t complete without a watch. Invest in a GOOD watch. It just ties in the whole look.

  1. Basics are KING:

Basics go a long way. You can style them up, style them down and you grab them from anywhere! Whether it’s a cheap five pack from Kmart, or a quality tee from Hugo Boss, everyone needs a selection of basic t-shirts, singlets, button ups, polos, and chinos.

This should make up the majority of your wardrobe. Then you’ll always find something to wear.

  1. Splurge:

A premium label jacket will up the ante in the style stakes. That Tom Ford coat will look SUPER sharp, and most importantly, can last you years.

  1. Colour it in:

Level it up by adding some colour. A bright blue shirt with some dark jeans? Some light chinos with a pastel top? There are so many ways to incorporate colour, and you’ll definitely be standing out from the crowd.

  1. Find your style:

My final and most important rule: find YOUR style.

Following all these tips can give you confidence, but if you don’t tweak them to suit you… it won’t work.

Figure out what it is that makes you feel comfy.

Find inspiration and discover what makes you feel confident.

That’s the key to winning at the style game.
